The development of CERCS™ was originally inspired by the need for data collection, project management, and carbon offset (credit) calculations for a clean cookstove (woodgas) project that was launched in India by Paul Anderson’s not-for-profit organization, Juntos Energy Solutions, NFP. This resulted in the development of CharTrac, Version 1.0.
Shortly thereafter, the CharTrac desktop application was completely redeveloped as a mobile web application for broader utility and use with other types of woodgas projects, including wood heaters and, perhaps most significantly, kilns for the efficient production of biochar. These efforts have largely been driven by the value of climate benefits (carbon emission reduction and carbon removal) that are generated by carefully managed woodgas projects.
Today, CharTrac is a primary component of the integrated set applications called CERCS™.
